How to Send Large Video Files from Android (Quick Share, Google Photos and Links)
Send a big video from an Android phone with Quick Share to a nearby device, a Google Photos or Drive link, or a transfer link. Limits checked against Google's own help pages.
Published
On Android, the quickest way to send a big video to someone in the same room is Quick Share. Google describes it as a way to immediately send and receive files from nearby devices. For anyone who is not nearby, put the video behind a link instead: a Google Photos or Google Drive link if you have space in your Google account, or a transfer link if you do not. Quick Share was previously known as Nearby Share, and some phones still show the old name.
Pick by who is receiving
- Someone nearby with an Android phone: Quick Share.
- Someone nearby with an iPhone: Quick Share works with AirDrop on some phones, or through a QR code on the rest (see below).
- Someone far away, and you have Google storage to spare: a Google Photos or Drive link.
- A video bigger than your free Google space, or one that should stop being available by itself: a transfer link.
Ways to send a large video from Android
Limits below come from Google's own help pages and were last checked on October 16, 2026. Google changes them, so open the linked page if the exact number matters.
| Method | Size limit | What the recipient gets | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quick Share to a nearby Android device | No size limit is listed on Google's Quick Share page | The file in their Downloads > Quick Share folder | Bluetooth on for both, and the receiving screen unlocked. |
| Quick Share to iPhone, iPad or Mac by QR code | Up to 10 GB every 24 hours, up to 1,000 files per session | A download page that stays open for 24 hours | Both devices need internet. Video files can only be downloaded, not saved or shared from that page. |
| Google Photos link | Videos up to 10 GB can be backed up | A link to the video | Storage saver resizes videos higher than 1080p to 1080p. Storage is up to 15 GB per account. |
| Google Drive link | Up to 5 TB per file | A link; with Anyone with the link, no Google sign-in is needed | Your name and email show as the file owner. The file counts against your Google storage. |
| Transfer service such as Roceet | Roceet Free: 2 GB per transfer. Roceet Ultimate: up to 200 GB per transfer | A download link, no account needed | Free links last up to 2 days. See the Roceet section below. |
How to send a video with Quick Share
The steps follow Google's Quick Share help page. Google notes that on Samsung Galaxy phones the settings and features can be different.
- Open the video and tap Share, then Quick Share. You can also open the Quick Share tile in Quick Settings.
- Tap the device you want to send to. If it is not listed, ask the other person to open the Quick Share page and use Receive mode.
- Wait for them to accept. Their screen has to be unlocked.
- Leave the screen if you need to. The transfer continues and you get a notification with its status.
To send to an iPhone, iPad or Mac, Google says you can use Quick Share on Pixel 8a or later and certain Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, Honor, Transsion and Motorola phones. The Apple user opens their AirDrop settings and picks Everyone for 10 minutes, then accepts on their device. On phones without that support, tap Use QR code on the Quick Share page and have the iPhone user scan it.
How to send a video as a Google Photos link
If the video is backed up to Google Photos, you can send a link instead of the file.
- Open the Google Photos app and select the video.
- Tap Share.
- Tap Create link, then paste the link into a message or an email.
Check the backup quality first. Google lists Original quality as recommended for videos with more than 1080p. If a video was backed up at Storage saver, the stored copy is the resized one, so choose Original quality before you back up footage that someone will edit or grade.
Send a large Android video with Roceet
Roceet suits a video that is too big for your Google storage, or one you want to hand over with a password and a download limit. We haven't verified uploading from a phone browser yet, so a computer is the dependable route: copy the video over first, then drop it below. Add a title or message if you like, enter your email, and confirm the 8-digit code. You get a link to paste into whatever you use to message people. Whoever receives it clicks, then downloads. No account needed on their side.
How the plans compare for video:
- Free: each transfer can hold up to 2 GB. You choose when the link expires, up to 2 days. Free has no monthly cap on transfers; your 2 GB storage balance is the limit while a transfer is live, and it frees up when the files are deleted.
- Ultimate: $16.99 per user per month. Up to 200 GB per transfer, and links can stay live for up to 30 days.
- Controls: a password and a download limit are optional on any transfer. You choose when the link expires, up to your plan's lifetime.
If the clip is small and the person is next to you, Quick Share is simpler. If you are sending to an iPhone user, see how to send large video files from iPhone for what they can do on their side. For email-specific limits, see how to send large files through Gmail.
